Brazil exceeds 2 million coronavirus

Brazil told thursday that its number 2 million showed coronavirus infection after an acceleration of the disease in the country during the following month that left it in the United States because of the total number of cases and deaths and the target of a tough complaint about the government’s reaction to the pandemic.

Johns Hopkins University tracker said Brazil had more than 2 million instances and 76,688 deaths on Thursday.

According to Reuters, it took 27 days for infections in Brazil to double from 1 million to 2 million.

Brazil has averaged more than 1,000 deaths from the virus on average since late May, The Associated Press reported.

The case tally is largely believed to be a lowball because of low testing rates, with one model estimating the country actually has five times as many, according to the AP.

The news comes after President Jair Bolsonaro, widely criticized for constantly minimizing the severity of the virus, was inflamed with the virus, which tested positive for the time being Wednesday after being first diagnosed last week.

Bolsonaro said he is taking hydroxychloroquine to treat the infection, despite developing evidence that it is not effective at fighting coronavirus.

“The virus would have been hard to feel anyway. But this milestone of 2 million cases, which is greatly underestimated, shows that it may have been different,” said Adriano Massuda, a professor at Sao Paulo. “There is no national detection strategy, there are no more sensible measures,” adding that “there is very little effort for fundamental attention so that we can locate serious cases before they become too serious [and] no follow-up.”

Reuters reports experts are warning of what’s to come in the southern part of the country, which has an older population and also experiences colder winters than other parts of Brazil. The risk for complications associated with the virus is more dangerous for the elderly, according to the World Health Organization.

The United States is still in the worst-affected country, with more than 3.5 million cases and 138,141 deaths on Thursday, Johns Hopkins University reported. But this week, for the first time since the start of the pandemic, combined coronavirus deaths in Latin America and the Caribbean eclipsed those of the United States and Canada, largely across Brazil. In addition to Bolsonaro, other Latin American state leaders who have inflamed with the virus include Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernandez and Bolivia’s acting president, Jeanine Aez.
