Brazil declares animal emergency in Rio Grande do Sul after Newcastle disease case

SAO PAULO (Reuters) – Brazil’s agriculture ministry declared a state of emergency in the far southern state of Rio Grande do Sul on Friday following the detection of a Newcastle case at a poultry farm.

Newcastle is a viral disease that affects domestic and wild birds, causing, among other symptoms, respiratory distress and can lead to death.
