The Bolivian government denounced the movements of armed protesters as the country entered a tenth day of barricades that prevented important medical materials needed to combat the coronavirus pandemic from reaching hospitals.
Supporters of former President Evo Morales in exile have erected 142 barricades in Bolivia’s departments, Deputy Interior Minister Javier Issa said Wednesday.
Protesters, more commonly other indigenous people and farmers, say the general election has been postponed for a moment.
Drawn through Morales from exile in Argentina, they requested that he be reinstated on his last date from September 6 to October 18, as established through the Supreme Electoral Court.

On Monday, top officers of the Army and Police condemned the “terrorism” of armed people by holding barricades and called on political leaders to maintain a “dialogue, avoiding any confrontational action that only accumulates degrees of conflict.”
The Armed Forces, General Sergio Orellana and deputy police commander, General Ronald Suarez, have warned that they are opposed to following in the footsteps of countries in the region such as Peru and Colombia that have suffered decades of internal conflict.
“There are consultations, some rapprochements have been made with each other” to open discussions, said Ricardo Centellas, president of the Bolivian Episcopal Conference.
The resolution through the Church, the UN and the EU came after a request for mediation by Ánez, Parliament and the Supreme Electoral Court, a church told the AFP.
Centellas said the focus of the discussion will be to “completely” confront the coronavirus pandemic that has inflamed more than 91,000 people and killed 3,700 among the 11 million population.

Authorities say roadblocks have severely limited the ability of oxygen-using trucks to succeed in hospitals where coronavirus patients desperately need treatment.
