Bobcats Drop Showcase Contest at DII Northern State University

ABERDEEN, SD – The Peru State men’s basketball team lost to the North State Wolves of the NCAA DII 94-65 on Friday night in Aberdeen, South Dakota. The Bobcats’ record remains 6-1, as this was an exhibition game. The Bobcats started the first half strong, taking an 18-12 lead after DeAndre Johns (Jr. , Kenosha, WI) started the game with a smart layup assisted by Matthew Wingett (Sr. , Winnebago, BORN). Wingett made a jumper in the paint to help the Bobcats keep the game close to the Wolves. A quick, commanding layup by AJ Richard (Jr. , Pearland, TX) followed by two loose jumpers by DeAndre Johns ended the half for the Bobcats, who trailed 47-30. In the second phase, Ty Griggs (Jr. , Omaha, NE) made a successful shot from the arc followed by another dominant block of a Wolves shot attempt by Amir Poat (Jr. , Rasht, Iran). The Bobcats continued to fight and scored 15 points in 3. 5 minutes. A final jump shot by Carlos Austin Jr. (Sr. , Kansas City, MO) ended the second half. Although the Bobcats never stopped fighting, the Wolves managed a 94-65 victory. Matthew Wingett led the team with 12 digs and 4 rebounds. He also had 3 assists against the Wolves. Luke Lee (P. , Frisco, TX) also had 12 problems in the game. DeAndre Johns had eight points and four rebounds for the Bobcats, followed by Ty Griggs, who had seven points and three rebounds. AJ Richard had eight troubles and Easton Hall (Jr. , Schuyler, NE) had six troubles and five rebounds against the Wolves.
