GENEVA (AP) — Former FIFA President Sepp Blatter says choosing Qatar to host the World Cup was a mistake 12 years ago. Blatter was leading FIFA at the time of the vote and said football and the World Cup were too big for such a small country. He repeated his claim that key votes for Qatar were influenced through an assembly in Paris in 2010 between then-French President Nicolas Sarkozy and FIFA Vice President Michel Platini. Blatter, 86, spoke to a Swiss media group. It’s his first major interview since his acquittal with Platini in July of monetary misconduct at FIFA.
