MANILA, Philippines – Senator Nancy Binay on Sunday criticized the Ministry of Health (DOH) for saying it is too early to conclude that Chinese tourists inflamed with COVID-9, who visited the country this year, helped spread the virus.
(Is it serious? So the spread of COVID-19 in the country did not begin with Chinese tourists? But would the DOH be willing to know who brought the virus and how it spread?)
“By saying that this is the case of Chinese tourists with Covid (that there is enough evidence that the virus came here from Chinese tourists), it is almost accepted that they are a failure in the search for contacts, so they prevented the spread of the virus and will remain so,” the senator said.
At an earlier online press conference, the Undersecretary of Health, Maria Rosario Vergeire, said it was still too early to reach an express conclusion about the spread of COVID-19 infection.
This is although the study of the Tropical Medicine Research Institute (RITM) appears that the coronavirus strain circulating in the Philippines is different from that contracted by the 3 Chinese tourists.
As a reminder, the first 3 coVID-19s in the Philippines were all Chinese tourists from Wuhan City, in China’s Hubei Province, where the causal agent of COVID-19 originated.
In January, Binay, who chairs the Senate Tourism Committee, asked DOH and government agencies to ban Chinese tourists from entering the country as a precaution in the event of a COVID-19 outbreak.
