Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden was largely wrong about the number of coronavirus deaths among the army on Wednesday, saying more than 6,000 died from the virus.
“Inflamed military with COVID: 118,984,” Biden said, reading a list of statistics that a crusade avoided in Michigan. “Military deaths via COVID: 6,114”.
According to the Ministry of Defence, these figures were exaggerated: the number of coronavirus contagions in the army exceeds 40,000, while seven have died.
Former Vice President Biden said that more than 6,000 members of the US military have died as a result of the coronavirus, the actual number is seven according to @DeptofDefense https://t. co/AJmCelSpOD
After the event, his crusade explained that he had combined Michigan’s numbers with those of the army. Johns Hopkins coronavirus monitoring indicates that another 6811 people in Michigan died from the virus, but not 6114.
“Vice President Biden has the utmost respect for the men and women of the military and believes that it is the sacred duty of our country to equip them well, take care of their families during their deployment and take care of them when they return. ” Michael Gwin, Biden’s deputy director of immediate response, told Fox News to acknowledge his sacrifice. “
It is simply triste. @JoeBiden you not only get disastrously false deaths from COVID’s army (a 1000 thing), but you also have difficulty reading the fundamental figures and finding your notes too shocking to be funny. Joe’s not all there. /t. co/fDyET1U0cp @YouTube
Did @CNN even call them? JoeBiden’s lies?” https://t. co/jjUrEw2WR4
This is not the first time the former vice president has been wrong to cite statistics: in June, he claimed that 120 million Americans had died by COVID-19, corrected himself to say 120,000. States amount to just over 190,000 deaths.
Biden also spoiled the death toll from firearms in a number one Democratic debate in February, saying that 150 million Americans had been killed since 2007 as a result of gun violence. A member of Biden’s crusade later said he was referring to a thousand instead of millions.
