Bestseller reduced its direct GHGs by 82% in 2021, corresponding to 79,000 tonnes less GHG in 2018.
“We are well aware that most of our overall climate footprint comes from our oblique price chain. It is very important that the factories we work with also have greater opportunities to use renewable energy. With this initiative, we need the option for our suppliers to invest in more sustainable responses to take advantage of their own businesses, their local communities, our company and the entire ecological transition,” said Anders Holch Povlsen, CEO and owner of Bestseller.
He added: “This is one of the many stages of a wonderful adventure and we look forward to engaging with our nearby suppliers and getting new reports on how Bestseller can help spread sustainability across all sectors of the fashion industry. “
Indirect GHG emissions from, for example, production and suppliers account for 95% of Bestseller’s total emissions. Along with the expansion of the brand and thus the accumulation in production, the percentage of GHG emissions from the extended price chain has increased. which has a negative influence on Bestseller’s overall carbon footprint, Bestseller said.
Among other initiatives, planned solar power plants and renewable electric power produced will buck the trend. The solar plants will be established with investment from Bestseller’s parent group, Heartland, which will make it easier and allow textile brands to invest and build solar plants in their factories.
“At Heartland, we believe that a green and global transition is very vital and necessary. And while we see vital and vital initiatives, especially in Denmark, it is also transparent that we can do more to contribute to the green transition which is also to take a stand in countries where preconditions are more difficult. We are very keen to contribute to green projects that can make a difference globally, and the status quo of solar power plants in Bangladesh is a smart example of this,” said Lise Kaae, CEO of Heartland.
According to the Danish fashion brand, the installation of solar power plants in Bangladesh will begin in 2023, when Bestseller’s supplier, Body Fashion Limited, based in Gazipur in central Bangladesh, is the first factory to participate in the initiative. The solar panels will be installed through the Green Garments Initiative, a company created through Heartland and cleantech company SOLshare, which is helping to overhaul Bangladesh’s power grid.
“The task is the first joint venture between a foreign fashion logo and a climate generation company in Bangladesh. We look towards the construction of solar power plants among Bestseller’s suppliers through close collaboration in discussion and fast and reliable execution,” added Sebastian Groh, Managing Director. and co-founder of SOLshare.
In recent years, Bestseller has been running on 3-oscilloscope displays through other initiatives.
