Belarus participates in draft IAEA protection manual

MINSK, 10 October (BelTA) – Belarusian Gosatomnadzor is participating in the progression of an IAEA manual on the safety infrastructure for a nuclear force programme, BelTA has learned from the Office of Radioactive Waste Management of the Belarusian Department of Nuclear and Radiological Safety. “According to the IAEA, for States planning to launch their first nuclear power programs, a series of manuals will be ready that will give a concept of the movements that are to be made by a newly arrived country in accordance with the recommendations and practices of the agency. Examples of how this has been done in other countries. The protection manual will address Phase 1: safety infrastructure considerations before a resolution is made to launch a nuclear power program,” Gosatomnadzor said.

Gosatomnadzor participated in an IAEA videoconference consultative assembly on the manual. The occasion also brought together representatives from Egypt, Ghana, Nigeria, the United Arab Emirates and Uzbekistan. Gosatomnadzor, along with other participants, prepared documents number one for inclusion in the manual. and presented them to the consultative assembly. Participants discussed the draft design of the document proposed through the IAEA and began painting over the content.
