Belarus and Russia to sign agreement on control of spent nuclear fuel by the end of the year

MOGILEV, 10 November (BelTA) – Belarus and Russia will sign an intergovernmental agreement on the control of spent nuclear fuel until the end of the year. This resolution is stipulated through the State of the Union Program on the Development of the Nuclear Power Industry. the implementation of the program discussed in a consultation of the Energy and Transport Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the State of the Union of Belarus and Russia in Mogilev, BelTA learned.

According to Belarusian Energy Minister Viktor Karankevich, almost all the stipulated steps have been fulfilled through the State of the Union program. Among other things, Presidential Decree No. 137 of Belarus was adopted. The Decree introduced a regulation on licensing activities in the framework of the use of nuclear energy and ionizing radiation resources. The law regulating protection in the use of atomic energy was also approved.

The intergovernmental agreement on the control of spent nuclear fuel will be signed until the end of the year, the energy minister said.
