Bay Port dies after being hospitalized by COVID-19, Says Howard-Suamico School District

SUAMICO – A Bay Port High School instructor died Thursday morning of COVID-19-like headaches, the Howard-Suamico School District said in a letter sent home with the students.

Heidi Hussli, 47, of Beaver Dam who lived in Suamico, followed her mother in education and coached German at Bay Port High School for 16 years. Hussli had studied German at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and leadership at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

“I really enjoyed German culture,” said Amber Viegut, an Englishwoman from Bay Port.

“He took dozens of children, and added our principal’s son to Germany,” Viegut said. “He made countless trips to Chicago to get to the Christmas market. He has also conducted cultural events at the school. My favorite memory is his annual attire” for Oktoberfest. “

Hussli is believed to be the first schoolteacher in the region to die of COVID-19 since the start of the school year several weeks ago. One colleague said Hussli in elegance in the week of September 8, has fallen ill over the weekend and not able to return to elegance.

He is survived by a husband and a son. His mother died in late August.

At noon on Thursday, Bay Port reported nine positive cases of COVID-19, 8 involving academics. Eight staff members and 31 academics were quarantined.

Overall, the Howard-Suamico district reported that a total of two teachers and 10 academics in the district’s 8 schools tested positive for COVID-19. Schools and the district workplace have a total of 130 academics and 30 teachers and are quarantined.

As a component of the school district’s reopening plan, Bay Port students attend user categories two days a week (Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday), with distance learning the other two days. remotely and takes component in laboratories, fitness sessions, interest-based learning, clubs/meeting organization. The presence of academics in user on Fridays is not required.

Hussli is remembered at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, where she studied German.
