14 Aug (Reuters) – The St. Louis Cardinals will return to action this weekend after delaying a total of 14 games while facing a COVID-19 outbreak within the club, Major League Baseball announced Friday.
The Cardinals, who last competed on July 29, will finish their two-week break when they play a double against the Chicago White Sox on Saturday before concluding the three-game series on Sunday.
Both groups were scheduled to open the three-game series Thursday in Iowa with the game “Field of Dreams”, but the contest near the online page of the film of the same call had been postponed until 2021 due to the virus.
St. Louis had played only five games in the 2020 season of 60 MLB games when they were sidelined last July after team members tested positive for the virus.
Additional positive tests involving Cardinals players and prevented the team from returning to the area in a season that was already delayed for nearly 4 months due to the new coronavirus.
MLB has announced several rescheduling updates to get the Cardinals back on track for their season.
Among the changes, St. Louis will play three doubles games for the Chicago Cubs that will come with the scheduled game and a composition of last weekend’s scheduled series.
In a separate ad, MLB and the syndicate representing its players said that 4 of the 12,302 samples collected last week had tested positive, a figure of two players and two members of the same club. (Reporting through Frank Pingue in Toronto edited through Chizu Nomiyama)
