MANAMA, Bahrain, Sept. 29, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — The Bahrain Water and Electricity Authority (EWA) has submitted its tender procedure to appoint a qualified contractor to remediate a two-square-kilometer landfill to establish the level of progression and implementation of a solar allocation with a minimum capacity of one hundred MW. The landfill is located in Askar in the southern governorate of Bahrain.

The scope of the task will come with the design and structure of a landfill fuel extraction and remediation formula to meet the needs of environmental criteria as required by the Supreme Council for the Environment. The task will also include land remediation, fuel progression and leachate control formulas and a drainage formula to ensure site readiness for solar allocation structure and operation.

The scope of the tender also includes additional investigations to meet the required functionality specifications and environmental monitoring of the landfill (leachate, groundwater contamination, air emissions, landfill fuel treatment, etc. ) in agreed periods up to 12 months after the final touch of the remediation. .

Commenting on the launch of the tender, H. E. The tender document sets out transparent requirements for environmental criteria to ensure that the allocation complies with the guidelines of foreign production practices, ensuring the protection of the site and the longevity of the allocation. As part of a separate tender and in parallel with this allocation, EWA will consider a “RFP)” for the progression of a hundred-MW solar power plant at the rehabilitated landfill.
