Bahrain Stock Exchange ‘rings the bell for monetary literacy’

From IOSCO World Investor Week 2022

The Bahrain Stock Exchange (BHB), a self-regulated multi-asset market position and associate member of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO), has announced its participation in the sixth annual Global Investor Week (“WIW”), taking position from 3 to 9 October 2022. This year’s key messages of the IOSCO WIW crusade will address two themes: 1) investor resilience and 2) sustainable finance.

Together with IOSCO WIW, the Bahrain Stock Exchange joined 106 other global scholarships in the World Scholarship Federation’s annual “Ring the Bell for Financial Literacy” initiative to promote financial education and raise awareness about the importance of monetary inclusion. As part of the week’s events, Bahrain Bourse is hosting a virtual occasion “Ring the bell for financial literacy” through a video crusade, with key participants from indexed corporations as well as other key stakeholders to highlight and showcase Bahrain Exchange’s outreach programs. During the week-long crusade, Bahrain Stock Exchange will also launch a crusade of educational series aimed at capital markets for the general public.

Shaikh Khalifa bin Ebrahim Al-Khalifa, Chief Executive Officer of Bahrain Bourse, said: “Promoting investor education is a top sensible priority for Bahrain Bourse, as evidenced through our various programmes, and it is a privilege to be part of this exclusive opportunity, where we can collaborate with all stakeholders in investor education and protection, either locally and globally. By participating in projects this week, the Bahrain Stock Exchange aims to strengthen the Kingdom’s symbol and prestige as the region’s most mature monetary center, in line with Bahrain’s ambitions to become a globally competitive economy based on the guiding principles of sustainability, competitiveness and equity. We look to the future to showcase our latest developments and milestones, which will particularly increase the performance, transparency and facilities provided to investors. “

Ashley Alder, Chairman of the IOSCO Board of Directors and Director General of the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission, said: “I am very pleased with this sixth edition of IOSCO Global Investor Week. Over the past two years, we have noticed an expansion of retail investors participating in the stock markets, in the context of the global pandemic. These investors face new challenges, such as inflationary pressures and uncertainties stemming from geopolitical tensions. Financial education and investor coverage play a key role in building and trusting investors’ resilience to participate in money markets in full knowledge of the facts.

WIW is a week-long global crusade to raise awareness of the importance of investor education and protection. For the fourth consecutive year, IOSCO and WFE participate in the “Ring the Bell for Financial Literacy” crusade. In 2021, the Bahrain Stock Exchange supported the national anti-fraud crusade presented through the Association of Bahrain Banks (BAB) to promote awareness of various electronic fraud operations targeting money services. The “Ring the Bell for Financial Literacy” initiative complements the Bahrain Stock Exchange’s efforts to create money awareness among investors and other stakeholders in the capital markets. The Bahrain Stock Exchange works with various stakeholders to raise money and investment awareness through various initiatives, adding the Smart Investor Program targeting primary school students, the TradeQuest Program targeting top school and college students, as well as public awareness programs presented through the Investment Academy that was introduced in collaboration with BIBF and the Capital Markets Learning Program. which offers job education and practical experience for new graduates.
