Cairo: Bahraini prosecutors have ordered the pre-trial detention of a Muslim preacher pending questioning the defamation of the partners of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be with him) in a sermon.
The defendant noted in an online video that he delivered a sermon in a devoted instance that made “explicit and implicit” comments with the intention of insulting and underestimating the prophet’s partners “in a way that arouses sedition among the country’s population and encourages extremism,” said a high-ranking prosecutor. quoted official saying today.
He called and questioned through the workplace of the prosecutor who confronted him with photographs of his sermon and refuted his defense, prosecutor Ebrahim Al Banjasim said.
“Freedom of opinion and expression is enshrined in Bahrain’s statutes and law, provided that freedom violates religion, its precepts and symbols, or causes discord and intolerance among members of society,” the official said, according to Al Bilad newspaper.
Last week, Bahrain’s highest court upheld a one-year criminal sentence against the preacher convicted of abusing the Orthodox caliphs of 7th-century Islam, who ruled after the death of the Prophet Muhammad.
