Bahrain: Former MP jailed for his brother’s identity card

Cairo: A Bahraini court sentenced a former lawmaker to 3 years in prison for false identity to obtain his brother’s identity card to evade arrest, a local newspaper reported.

The resolution was passed by the High Criminal Court after searching for the former parliamentarian in absentia, Akhbar Al Khaleej reported.

The case resurfaced after the defendant, wanted in other criminal cases, presented his brother’s identity card to a police officer in an attempt to deceive him, according to the report.

The wanted man then sped inside his car at the scene. Prosecutors accused him of maliciously stealing a legal identity and referred the case to the court, which tried him in absentia.

The report called the defendant or provided the main points of the other instances of offenders for which he is wanted.
