Dubai: Forty-eight members of two gangs, plus 39 for being involved in prostitution, have been arrested in Bahrain, local media reported.
In a statement, the Interior Ministry’s Department to Combat Human Trafficking and Protect Public Morality said Saturday that nine Asians were among those arrested.
A large amount of alcoholic beverages were seized from the possessions of both gangs.
In recent years, the Bahraini government has dismantled sex trafficking gangs in the country. It has even been claimed that convicted persons can face sentences of up to 15 years and fines of up to BD 10,000, in addition to paying the repatriation prices of the victims. .
Bahrain’s Penal Code, under article 325, stipulates that persons convicted of forced prostitution could be punished with prison sentences of 2 to 7 years. In case the victim is a minor, a prison sentence of 3 to 10 years will be imposed.
