Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro said Saturday that he had tested negative for the new coronavirus after weeks of quarantine due to an infection.
In a photo posted on social media, Bolsonaro gave the impression with a box of hydroxychloroquine, an antimalarial drug to which he attributed his recovery despite the lack of clinical evidence about its effectiveness. In an accompanying text, he stated that his RT-PCR test for Sars-Cov 2 was negative.

Bolsonaro reported positive 3 times this month, adding an initial diagnosis on July 7 for Covid-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus.
Since then, he has been partly at the presidential residence, filling his official schedule with videoconferences. They noticed him outside, adding at a rally where he greeted the supporters, cutting the mask from time to time from a distance of a few meters.
Bolsonaro coronav-rus infection was one of more than 2.3 million cases in Brazil, in the United States alone. The pandemic has killed more than 85,000 people in Brazil.
Bolsonaro downplayed the dangers of the virus, which he described as “a little flu,” challenged public fitness experts and fought down governors and mayors to fight the pandemic. The right-wing populist warned that such policies were worse than the virus itself and suggested that corporations reopen quickly.
Bolsonaro said he would start traveling all over the country after recovering from his illness.
