BACOLOD CITY, Western Negros, Philippines – After the city of Cebu reduced its coronavirus cases, Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu travels to this provincial capital of Western Negros to control the number of infections that have affected his hospitals and medical personnel.
“We need to assure them that the national government is there to help them. We’ll help you in the process,” Dino said in a statement.
He said the recent increase in transmissions had filled the 149 COVID-19 beds in seven hospitals in the city.
“The scenario has worsened as many doctors in those hospitals tested positive for the virus and had to go into quarantine [or] isolation and have not yet returned to work, while several others have resigned or been absent without [official] license (Awol). Most of them are nurses,” the mayor said in a letter to the president.
“An augmentation team can exchange with those who are still on duty in those hospitals or fill the gap of those who are still quarantined,” he added.
Since Sunday, Bacolod hospitals have rejected patients with COVID-19 or symptoms of the disease because they were complete and had no doctors or nurses to treat them.
Leonardia said some patients had died at home because they may simply be admitted to hospitals.
He said Carlito Galvez Jr. , head of implementation of the National Working Group against COVID-19, had informed him that the national government would deploy a body of fitness workers and ask the city’s hotels to serve as “folded” comforts to patients so that hospitals could admit critically ill patients.
Cimatu and his team controlled to decrease the number of infections after about a month. Marlyn Convocar, DIRECTOR of DOH in Western Visayas, said hospital beds for COVID-19 patients in Bacolod want to be taller, while more medical services are expected to be deployed to address the number of cases in development.
As of August 24, Negros Occidental had registered 966 coVID-19, Bacolod was 749.
Negros Occidental and Bacolod will put into force a lock on the proposed “weekend of time” from 28 to 31 August to conduct loose tests on 10,000 people.
