Archaeologists were recently shocked by the discovery of 25 skulls at the ancient burial of El Cementerio near the town of Onavas, Mexico. But strangely, thirteen of those skulls look like aliens.
The burial site was originally discovered through villagers in 1999 when an irrigation system was created. It is believed to be the oldest pre-Hispanic resting position discovered in the state of Sonora, Mexico, and has existed for approximately 1,000 years.
It is in this burial where the 2five skulls were found, adding 17 belonging to young people from five months to 16 years of age. Only one of the skulls has been known to be female. The skulls of the young men showed no symptoms of disease or trauma as a cause of death. .
Thirteen of the skulls had a very elongated appearance and resembled alien heads.
According to experts, those skull shapes were the result of a ritual known as cranial deformity, in which skulls were compressed between two planks from childhood.
This practice is not unusual among the pre-Hispanic populations of Mesoamerica and western Mexico. However, this is the first time elongated skulls have been discovered in northern Mexico.
