LOW. KAZINFORM (AP) — At least one user was killed and 60 others wounded in a stampede at a stadium in Basra, southern Iraq, on Thursday, Anadolu Agency reported.
The accident took place in front of the Jaza’a Al Nakhla stadium, ahead of the final of the 25th Arab Gulf Cup, the Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported.
Medics showed some of the injured are in critical condition, the report said.
Hosts Iraq and Oman qualified for the final of the eight-nation tournament, which began on Jan. 6.
The other six were Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen.
There were several incidents at the tournament, adding a twist of traffic fate on Monday that killed seven other people and injured 30 others en route to a semifinal game.
