The number of new instances of COVID-19 in the United States reached another record last week, emerging 18% to more than 575,000, while deaths increased by 3%, according to Reuters’ investigation of state and county reports.
The number of new cases reported per week has increased for 4 consecutive weeks, with the largest increases observed in the last two weeks.
Nationally, nearly 5,800 other people died from the virus in the seven days ended November 1, bringing the total to more than 230,000. Health experts say deaths tend to accumulate 4 to six weeks after an infection outbreak.
Thirty-four of the 50 states saw new cases accumulate for at least two consecutive weeks, up from 36 last week. They come with Florida, Ohio and Michigan, all very controversial states for Tuesday’s U. S. presidential election. 60% in Pennsylvania, some other state.
Texas reported the maximum number of new instances last week with more than 45,600, followed by Illinois, which has the same number of people, with more than 44,500 new instances.
The United States conducted 8. 5 million COVID-19 tests last week, of which 6. 8% returned from the new virus, up from 6. 3% last week, according to knowledge of the COVID Tracking Project, a volunteer-led effort to monitor the outbreak.
South Dakota leads the country with a positive verification rate of 50%, followed by Iowa with 44% and Wyoming with 43%. In total, 17 states had a positive verification rate of more than 10%.
The World Health Organization considers rates above 5% to be a concern, suggesting that there are more cases in the network that have yet been discovered.
