ArmenianEasy is a publishing space founded in 2019 through Armenian-American sisters Cathy Jacobs Brito and Jenny Jacobs Mullen. His Beirut-born mother, Hourig Tukhanian Jacobs, is a teacher at teaching Armenian to non-native speakers. Following in their mother’s footsteps, Jenny and Cathy founded ArmenianEasy to meet an educational need.
As a homeschooled mother of five, Jenny was looking for a preschool/kindergarten workbook to teach Armenian letters to her children. Not finding what he was looking for, he turned to his sister for help. Artist and designer Cathy began creating activity pages for Jenny’s children. The small “side project” evolved into an online page of Armenian songs and learning resources, and two preschool-level workbooks.
“Labyrinths of Armenian Letters” is a shorter derivative of his first pre-K level folder, “The Great Book of Armenian Letters,” which is written entirely in Armenian. “The Big Book” presents Armenian lyrics in a playful way with a year of activities such as matching, coloring, mazes, dots, songs, etc. “Big Book activities are varied and every child will tend to have their favorites,” said Jenny, co-founder and educator of ArmenianEasy.
Jenny’s dual children, Aaron and Christopher, were the first to use “The Big Book. “Jenny noticed that Christopher was looking for mazes all over the folder and, similarly, Aaron was looking for all the pages with dots. This encouraged Cathy to create a maze color folder. When Christopher discovered that the “Labyrinths of Armenian letters” for him, he turned to his brother and said, “Don’t worry, Aaron, she’ll make you a dot-book. “
