Foxconn said Tuesday there were no deaths at its factory in Zhengzhou, China, the world’s largest iPhone production plant, in response to a video claiming other people had died from a covid-19 outbreak.
Taiwan’s iPhone assembler is battling a Covid outbreak at its Zhengzhou factory, taking preventative measures and requiring staff to undergo normal testing.
On Monday, a video circulating on Twitter claimed that another 8 people in a dormitory at Foxconn’s Zhengzhou factory had died as a result of the outbreak.
In a statement, Foxconn conducted a “detailed investigation” of the video and there were no fatalities at the facility.
“This is a maliciously edited video,” Foxconn said.
To deal with the outbreak, Foxconn has quarantined staff at the site, according to Reuters. Being locked up, staff fled the Zhengzhou factory on foot, videos circulating on social media and a Reuters report show it.
The Covid outbreak threatens to disrupt iPhone production at the Zhengzhou factory ahead of Apple’s critical season.
