SUNLAND PARK – The Gadsden Independent School District announced Thursday morning that Anthony Elementary School will close until it is realized after a worker developed symptoms of COVID-19 disease.
The district’s schools, which cater to the southern counties of Doña Ana and Otero, remain closed to students and parents until at least October 19, but offer distance learning classes and some teachers choose to teach from their classrooms. classroom than from home, adding 28 at Anthony Elementary.
The district stated that masks, face shields, and gloves were required from workers’ schools.
During its closure, the district stated that the spaces on the school campus that the worker may have accessed will be disinfected.

Families receiving food from Anthony School are invited to have food at Loma Linda and Gadsden Elementary Schools until further notice.
This is the first closure of a school site in the existing school year. Under the district’s reintegration plan, special education students who require face-to-face instruction can return to school beginning October 19, and distance learning is still available as an option. .
School buildings across the state were closed from March to Labor Day, offering distance schooling due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Under existing state plans, K-5 students are eligible to return to public and autonomous schools for in-person training on the network outreach rate and verify positivity rates in their counties.
During this time, 8 GISD workers tested positive for COVID-19, six of whom recovered and were allowed to return to work. Negative control is required for workers to return.
