Ammonia production at Oman’s OQ plant

The plant has a rated capacity of 1,000 day-consistent metrics (PGWD) of ammonia

OQ, the incorporated global energy group, has announced the start of production of the ammonia allocation in Dhofar governorate. The allocation is one of the main strategic allocations of total ownership through OQ with an investment charge of US$463 million. The plant has a nominal capacity of 1,000 metric tons consistent with the day (PGWD) of ammonia. OQ Trading, the group’s advertising arm, also announced the export of the plant’s first shipment of liquid ammonia to the port of Salalah.

Commenting on the announcement, Hilal Al Kharusi, executive director of OQ’s downstream business and business unit, said: “The allocation of ammonia is a component of OQ’s efforts to increase the price of herbal resources and assist the Oman government’s economic diversification plans. The plant will export its products to specific global markets, specifically in Asia, thus contributing to the improvement of Omani exports. “

“The start of production operations at the plant is a key step that reinforces OQ Group’s contribution. The demand for ammonia products in global markets is developing and leading to higher yields. This scenario makes the allocation highly feasible,” he added.

“This plant is fully incorporated into the existing methanol plant with a capacity of 1 million tons consistent with the year, which will allow OQ Group to streamline pricing and optimize production functionality and efficiency. The new ammonia plant is designed to retain the hydrogen-rich purge fuel generated through the methanol plant as a draconsistent crude for the ammonia plant,” Al Kharusi concluded.

Ammonia is used as a key element in the production of fertilizers and is an intermediate chemical in the manufacture of artificial resins, detergents, refrigerants, artificial fibers and polyurethanes, among other applications. Ammonia is also used in the production of green hydrogen, which is a key element of OQ’s Energy Transition agenda.
