Eric Wahl, who lives in Seattle, said his physically fit brother still receives death threats.
“No, my brother just died,” Eric Wahl said in a now-deleted social media video. “I killed him. “
On his football news page, Grant Wahl revealed that he was not feeling well and decided to seek treatment in Qatar earlier in the week.

Grant Wahl is survived by his wife, Celine Gounder, who said on social media that she is in shock.

Here in Los Angeles County, the LA Galaxy lit a candle next to a photo posted of Wahl at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson:
“LA Galaxy mourns the loss of highly reputable football journalist Grant Wahl. Our mind is with his circle of family and friends at this difficult time,” the Galaxy said in a social media post.
The 2022 MLS Cup champions LAFC also issued a reaction to the journalist’s death.
“LAFC is shocked and saddened by the passing of legendary football journalist Grant Wahl. The global football network and journalism have lost a giant. There is no one like him. Our mind and condolences are with his family,” the team said on social media.
Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James remembers Grant Wahl when he worked for Sports Illustrated. Wahl made a feature film about James with a canopy from SI magazine that said “The Chosen One” long before it was first written in the summer of 2003.
“I really like Grant,” James said. Having this canopy session, me being a teenager and doing it for him, is a cool thing. . . It is a tragic loss. It is unfortunate to lose someone as big as him, and I wish his circle of relatives all the best. “
