All victims of known migrant smuggling caravans “potentially or conclusively”

Delilah Hernandez, left, and her mother, Marissa, laid flowers on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at the spot where dozens of migrants were discovered dead or dying inside a suffocating semi-trailer on June 27.

According to the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office, the 53 immigrants who died in last week’s human trafficking crisis in southwest San Antonio have at least been identified.

By Monday night, medical examiners knew conclusively 35 victims. Aged between thirteen and five and five, 20 of them came from Mexico, 10 from Guatemala and five from Honduras.

The leaders of the respective nations attended a Mass in memory of the deceased, survivors and their families Thursday night at the central Cathedral of San Fernando.

One survivor is discharged from San Antonio Children’s Hospital, while another remains at CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital in Westover Hills. Lately, the training hospital is worried about a teenager in serious condition, according to a tweet from his account.

The Methodist recently discharged a boy and a woguy, and this hospital is still worried about a boy who is in critical condition lately.

The medical examiner’s workplace did not call the victims, but Wilmer Tulul and Pascual Melvin Guachiac, 13-year-old cousins from Tzucubal, Guatemala, are among the youngest dead, according to the Associated Press. Tulul’s father, Manuel de Jesus, told the AP that his son traveled to the United States with some Spanish to help his 3 siblings. His last communication with his circle of relatives was a message in local K’iche’ to his mother, Magdalena Tepaz: “Mom, we are leaving,” according to AP.

The other 18 people who died are “potential” IDs, meaning the office has an explanation of why the remains belong to a certain person, but are awaiting verification from the respective consulate. The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s office will release information about those it knew conclusively “in due course” and wait until a person’s next of kin are informed “out of respect for pain. “

Four other people have been arrested since dozens of immigrants were found dead or dying inside a truck with a choking trailer on June 27 on Quintana Road near Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland. Fifty-three immigrants died. Initially, 16 survivors were taken to area hospitals; five of them died.
