Algeria adjusts curfew to stop Covid-19

The number of Covid-19 instances in the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) region exceeded 1,585,587 on 1 September, according to Worldometer’s knowledge collected through MEED.

Countries in the wider mena region, the GCC and Iran, account for 30.4% of all those who showed infections.

The aptitude scenario is maintained in countries such as Algeria, which has renewed its blocking measures even when parts of the country begin to reopen to economic activity.

Algeria’s ban on cultural activities such as museums and libraries has been lifted, and exceptional paid leave for pregnant women or the rearing of children under the age of 14 has also been cancelled.

Nurseries can reopen when they are 50 of capacity and the national curfew has also been lifted in the souk of Ahras, Tissemsilt, Djelfa, Mascara, Oum el-Bouaghi, Batna, Biskra, Khenchela, M’sila, Chlef, Sidi Bel Abbes, Bordj de Bou Arreridj provinces, Ouargla, Béchar, Constantine, Setif, Adrar, Laghouat and El-Oued.

However, the curfew was renewed in the provinces of Boumerdes, Bouira, Relizane, Medea, Blida, Tipaza, Algiers, Oran, Annaba and Bejaia from 1 September for an era of 30 days, and prohibits from 23:00 to 06:00 hours.

The curfew was also imposed in the provinces of Tebessa, Illizi, El Tarf, Ain Defla, Tlemcen, Tizi-Ouzou, Tinduf and Jijel, where the epidemiological scenario worsened.

Public and personal shipments are prohibited on weekends in those provinces.Family reunions and marriages are prohibited.

Iran accounts for 23.7% of all Mena infections and, as the regional epicenter of the new coronavirus, the Iranian suffered in 2020.

Deputy Minister of Tourism Pouya Mahmoudian said the Covid-19 outbreak had caused losses of about $452 million in Iranian handicrafts and similar industries.

The closure of the craft and exhibition areas, combined with the ban on tourists for much of this year, has led to a significant slowdown in activity in the sector.Handicrafts are also an important component of Iran’s rural economies.

To date, Iran has shown 375,212 of Covid-19, with 323,233 cures and 21,571 deaths.
