Alberta parents will make an appointment for young people to get the first doses of Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine early next week.
Appointments for first doses can be booked starting Aug. 2, and vaccinations begin the same day, an Alberta government statement said July 29.
Children six months to years of age will be eligible.
“While most children are not at the highest risk of serious consequences, children under the age of five are at a higher risk than those over the age of five to 11,” said Dr. Brown. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta’s chief health officer.
“I encourage parents and guardians to talk to a fitness provider if they have questions about their child’s fitness, and I add questions about COVID-19 and vaccination. “
These appointments for the first dose will be made at bookvaccine. alberta. ca or by calling Health Link at 811. The vaccine will be administered at Alberta Health Services clinics, as the scope of pharmacists’ practice for immunization management is five years or more. . .
Alberta Health Services will administer all doses for this age group.
The statement recommends that children older than six months to 11 years get a number one series of two doses, waiting at least eight weeks between the first and last doses.
This may be greater than 3 doses for immunocompromised children, with a waiting time of 4 to 8 weeks between doses.
Eligible youth living in a First Nation may receive doses through on-site nursing stations or public fitness clinics.
Health Canada approved the Moderna vaccine for children older than six months to five years on July 14 and it has been used in the U. S. USA since June.
This announcement means that 234,000 children over the ages of six months to five are now eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine in Alberta.
