Airport officials hide cocaine in a wheelchair

The federal government says a man arrested in Charlotte, North Carolina, after he was arrested at the city’s airport with more than 23 pounds (more than 10 kilograms) of cocaine hidden in the seat cushions of a motorized wheelchair.

U. S. Customs and Border Protection officialsUU. se met with the traveler when he arrived at Charlotte Douglas International Airport from the Dominican Republic this week, according to a Friday press release.

“Their answers didn’t match. His alleged physical disability did not match. It’s a telltale sign that there’s something suspicious,” Mike Prado, assistant special agent for national security investigations, told WSOC-TV.

The 4 packages containing cocaine were discovered on seat cushions and had an estimated market price of $378,000, according to the press release.

The 22-year-old man is charged with cocaine trafficking. Authorities say he is a permanent and legal resident of the United States.
