After reports of raucous parties through 25-year-old teams renting Airbnb properties, the company took strong action and barred them from renting entire homes or apartments.
The Guardian reported that the only way for children under 25 to circumvent the new regulations is to have more than 3 positive reviews and no negative reviews. This will not prevent other people from having to rent hotel rooms or personal rooms in someone’s house.
Airbnb said in a statement that “the restriction is intended to protect local communities while allowing younger consumers to book outdoor email-rated ads in their area.”
Airbnb has focused on preventing such occasions in additional local communities. With Covid-19, there have also been considerations about non-compliance with fitness protocols.
inews reported that the hosts reported that visitors had used their homes to hold large parties, even when host regulations strictly prohibited them.
Patrick Robinson, Airbnb’s director of public policy, said on Airbnb’s online website that “while the vast majority of consumers on our platform are guilty neighbors, we are surely committed to obstructing and getting rid of anyone who intends to cause antisocial behavior.”
At the end of July, over 700 people attended a party at an Airbnb property in New Jersey. CBS News reported that it took local police more than 5 hours to break it up. Many of these gatherings have been linked to Covid-19 outbreaks and Airbnb has shut down the listings of properties where parties are known to have been held that contravene regulations.
The resolution banning children under the age of 25 in France, Spain and the United Kingdom follows trials in Canada and the United States.
