Air France-KLM Dutch branch suspends workers’ wage accrual

AMSTERDAM, 13 August (Reuters) – The Dutch air france-KLM branch said Thursday that it would unilaterally freeze a 2.5% pay increase it had agreed for staff in 2020, following the company’s plans to reduce prices in the face of the coronavirus pandemic.

In a statement, the corporation said it had failed to reach an agreement with the unions on the issue, even when they were discussing the restructuring plans proposed through KLM on 31 July, adding the elimination of 1,100 jobs.

The company said it had won billionaire bailouts from the Dutch and French governments and said it is wasting 10 million euros a day lately. ]

“In this context, KLM allows August’s wage accumulation to continue, either financially, in the eyes of the company or under the terms of the government loan,” he said in a statement. (Reports through Tothrough Sterling; Edited through Susan Fenton)
