India beat Kuwait 2-1 in their final qualifying match, but their third place in Group H is not enough to qualify for next year’s AFC U-20 Asian Cup in Uzbekistan.
India finished ahead of Kuwait but Australia and second-placed Iraq in the qualifying event. The top teams of the 10 teams and the top five runners-up qualified for the 16-team continental event that will take place from March 1 to 18, 2023. .
India had lost 2-4 and 1-4 to Iraq and Australia, respectively, in their last organizational matches. Against Kuwait on Tuesday night, captain Taison Singh Loitongbam (8th minute) and Gurkirat Singh (76th) scored for India, while Kuwaiti captain Saleh Al Mehtab (73rd) drew one at Ali Sabah Al-Salem Stadium.
