“Our new Terafactory is helping us mitigate demanding situations in the supply chain such as those we faced during the Covid-19 pandemic. By improving the production and logistics aspect of our business, we not only reduce our dependence on third parties, but also provide control of our own destiny. This strategic resolution makes us more responsive and resilient in the face of source chain pressures,” said Christoph Glingener, CTO of Adtran. “Our new Terafactory generates a significant portion of the energy it needs, making operations more energy efficient on a daily basis. And by bringing the production of our optical shipping generation back to Germany, we can more easily guarantee accuracy and quality. In addition, it will strengthen Europe’s position in optical shipping generation, fostering regional innovation and setting new benchmarks for the industry globally.
The new Terafactory reduces Adtran’s reliance on foreign suppliers and is helping to stabilize the delivery of its network responses to customers. As a component of the BMBF-sponsored 6G-Terafactory project, Adtran will deploy an Open-RAN-based personal cellular network across the campus. enabling automated processes, making hardware production, such as the company’s flagship FSP 3000 open optical shipping platform, more efficient. Quality is also simplified, as it can now be carried out via experts on the Meiningen site prior to distribution. And with its solar photovoltaic system, Adtran is further reducing its carbon footprint as it moves towards energy self-sufficiency across the Terafactory plant. This vital initiative was supported through a really significant investment by the Thuringian government.
“Recent occasions highlight the fragility of global supply chains. Adtran has taken proactive steps to protect itself from long-term shocks while advocating for sustainable practices that contribute directly to the local economy and community. Not only does this add value to our region, but it also creates tangible opportunities. That is why we are proud to assist Adtran in the creation of its new production site,” said Bodo Ramelow, Minister President of Thuringia. “The Terafactory in Adtran represents the most productive in German industry. This facility sends a transparent message to those who would possibly be shutting down their operations in reaction to global pressures. In an increasingly dubious world, we will need to be self-confident and ambitious in our collective ability to invest, innovate, and grow toward greater and more disgustingly rich in the long run. “
