Modular metal arrangement for immediate recovery of the broken crossing on a critical path
Acrow Bridge in Vicenza, Italy
PARSIPPANY, N. J. , Nov. 16, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Acrow, a leading foreign bridge engineering and sourcing company, announced that one of its modular metal bridges has been installed as a long-term diversion solution to maintain traffic flow during the transition. Before the opening of the Acrow 700XS® Bridge, motorists had to take a 12- to 15-kilometer detour around the site.
The Ponte di Debba, a historic solid iron structure, was built in 1885 and allows traffic on the Bacchiglione River in the village of Debba. During the summer 2022 inspection, the bridge suffered structural damage and was immediately closed to motor vehicles. In addition to the unreasonable length of the required detour, the road closure raised other significant concerns, in addition to alleviating the increased volume of diverted traffic entering Vicenza; blocking access to the toll booth on the A4 motorway; and stop local traffic, adding emergency equipment. For these reasons, the Municipality of Vicenza, which owns the structure, has chosen to install an Acrow panel bridge to repair the address safely and reliably throughout the rehabilitation of the old structure.
The single-track route has a duration of 30. 48 metres and a pavement width of 3. 67 metres. It has an epoxy aggregate board surface and a design load of 44 metric tons according to Eurocode/Italian standard. The Acrow pieces arrived at the site on July 10. of 2023, and installation activities started 3 days later. The fully covered bridge was introduced with a 70-tonne crane on 17 July, and after testing and installing lighting fixtures and signalling, the bridge was commissioned and opened to traffic on 2 August. Acrow provided technical assistance at the meeting and handled live loads. Testing activities prior to the commissioning of the bridge.
Despite the speed and good luck of the installation, carried out through the contractor Carraro Impresa, the order posed many complexities. The meeting road was incredibly narrow and situated between the main road, the riverbank and a sheltered pedestrian path, which had to remain open. installation. There were also high-voltage power lines at the site that needed to be avoided. Due to heavy traffic on the adjacent road, it could not be closed, limiting the finishing touch of the transience paintings to the construction of the crane meeting that led to only one weekend.
Acrow provided preliminary feasibility studies, adding virtual renderings to the mapping process, to illustrate the location of the modular transience bridge in close proximity to the existing one. The Acrow Bridge will remain in position for the duration of the rehabilitation assignment. the old structure, after which it will be dismantled through Carraro Impresa and stored for long-term use.
“This was an ambitious project, but very rewarding,” said Marco Mazzucato, Project and Business Development Manager at Acrow Italy. “Acrow’s modular solution made of durable metal helped repair the crossing, minimizing long-term inconvenience for local and regional travelers. For the duration of the rehabilitation project, Acrow’s 700XS modular metal bridge will provide reliable service with minimal requirements.
“Acrow has a long history of engineering and providing cutting-edge responses to temporarily repair broken or destroyed bridge infrastructure,” said Paul Sullivan, president of Acrow’s global business. “Our bridges are designed and manufactured from heavy-duty galvanized American metal for a lifespan of 75 to one hundred years, but are also an ideal solution for transient and emergency detour applications. “
About AcrowAcrow has been serving the transportation and structures industries for over 70 years with a wide diversity of modular metal bridge responses for permanent, temporary, military, and emergency use.
