A welcoming environment and innovation are keys to good luck at Coconut Grove’s Grand 7th

During our recent visit to Grand 7th, we had the excitement of meeting the dynamic owner, Firas Hussain. A guy who embodies the spirit of this mythical status quo in Coconut Grove. Firas welcomed us with open arms and offered us an offer. He couldn’t deny me: a freshly made colada, a Miami classic par excellence.

Let’s take a close look at the history of Firas and the warm and welcoming atmosphere that has made Grand 7th a precious gem since it opened its doors here in the center of the Grove Business Improvement District 28 years ago.

IDB: How did you get into the convenience store business?

FIRAS: During my studies, I worked part-time in convenience stores and then I had the opportunity to take over the 9/11 organization that was based in Grove. In five years, I would like to strengthen the pharmacy concept. and make our convenience store function more like a general store, as well as making the most of our online facilities.

IDB: What are some unique features that set you apart from other convenience retailers in general and in the region?

FIRAS: First of all, we are much more than a convenience store! The Grand 7th is also home to a takeout spot and a fully functional pharmacy. Visitors can satisfy their general wishes to the fullest in our stores.

IDB: Where do you see yourself and/or yourself in five years and 15 years?

FIRAS: Lately we have outlets in Allapattah, Miami Gardens, Kendall, and of course the main location here in Grove. So, 15 years from now, why not dream big?My vision is to roll out our operations across the country!

IDB: What facets of your upbringing and the culture of your home country influence your good fortune as a businessman?

FIRAS: I was born and raised in Baghdad, Iraq. From an early age, I understood that being really friendly and incorporating a sense of networked painting into my paintings would be the key to good luck in business and, of course, a strong determination to innovate.

BID: When was the pharmacy introduced? Does it offer any specialized services?

FIRAS: We introduced the pharmacy in 2018. What makes us unique is that we are open and can fill prescriptions domestically and abroad. In addition, we sell over-the-counter parts and are qualified to supply vaccines, adding COVID-19 and flu. Vaccines.

BID: Aside from the pharmacy and other retail services and products you offer, what are some of the food selections available at Grand 7th?

FIRAS: At the counter we sell Latin pastries such as tequeños, croquettes, empanadas and pastelitos. It is surely imperative that we offer them in the Miami market!Recently, we are also promoting organic pizzas in the form of a snack. , which also turns out to be a hit!

BID: Tell us a little more about your connection to the delicious Thai food you serve at this Grand Avenue establishment.

FIRAS: In 2013, we began subleasing the store’s kitchen to Asian Thai Kitchen. Having a fully functional place to eat in a convenience store was a new concept when it opened in 2014. However, it was a success! The Miami New Times even once decided on it. As the most productive Thai eating place in town!

IDB: You talked about the importance of the network in running a business of this type. Share with us the memorable interactions you had with your neighbors who are members of the Coconut Grove BID.

FIRAS: We have been operating Grand 7th for almost 30 years and are very proud of the expansion of our network. It’s been glorious to see how other fashion companies, adding BID corporations like The Last Carrot, have evolved within the network while maintaining their individuality.

IDB: To conclude, I would like to ask you, but still running your business, what is your passion?

FIRAS: I really like to get to know other cultures and notice them, especially through food! It’s also interesting to see how retail is organized in other countries!Other than that, I’m passionate about my circle of family members and I can’t help but praise my daughter. Achievements. For her application to school, she wrote an essay about her formative years at Grand 7th, chronicling the love she gained from the Coconut Grove network throughout the year. In fact, in 2020, the Festival’s “Zip” O Miami commission from Odes featured 3 of his works in the Grove, one of which, ironically, was placed right in front of the store!I couldn’t be prouder!
