A man wanted by security officials in Saudi Arabia committed suicide with an explosive belt to arrest him, wounding 4 others in the blast, the kingdom said Friday.
The Saudi state news agency, mentioning the Saudi State Security Presidency, met the dead as Abdullah bin Zayed al-Shehri.
The report says that when security forces intervened on Wednesday in the Saudi city of Jeddah, al-Shehri detonated the belt bomb. The report identifies the injured as Pakistani nationals and three security officials.
Al-Shehri had been wanted by the government for seven years, Reuters reported, bringing out state television.
The Saudi Press Agency report provided some main points about al-Shehri’s background, or whether he belonged to a known extremist group.
The kingdom fought al-Qaeda and Islamic State militants.
