Production of the film Geechee directed through Andrea Riseborough was suspended after a team member was injured in the Dominican Republic, EW confirmed.The deadline first announced the news.
A representative from Lantica Media, a production company in the country that operates the Geechee production site, provided EW with an account of an alleged incident that resulted in the injury. As reported by the production company, on the night of Wednesday September 2, a member of the film’s location recognition team was injured by agents of the Dominican Drug Control Forces (DDCF).
“The incident was the result of a covert operation carried out through DNCD agents nearby and is considered a case of misconception,” Lantica said.
He went on to say that while the incident occurred during the curfew imposed by the Dominican government to control COVID-19, the team had the appropriate permits issued through the authorities. The team member was promptly transferred to the hospital, where he was cared for.and released several hours later.
EW contacted DDCF for comments.
Lantica also stated that AGC Studios, which produces the film, had announced that production had been suspended until further notice.EW contacted the study representatives to verify this development.
“Lantica Media has called for a thorough investigation through the national government.The government has been cooperative and is working to ensure that a similar incident does not occur in the future,” he concluded.”For Lantica Media, the most sensible precedence is to ensure the protection and well-being of its productions, this is the first time that an occasion of this nature has taken place in one of the more than 50 productions attended through Lantica since its inception.”
