A fire ravages Putin’s alleged residence in Altai, amid secrecy and speculation

An unofficial apartment linked to Russian President Vladimir Putin, located in the Ongudai district of the Altai Republic, was particularly affected by the fire. Reports from various sources suggest that a main building of the complex, known colloquially as the Gazprom Sanatorium, was engulfed in flames, resulting in the almost total destruction of the building. Despite the scale of the fire, the government remained silent and did not make any official statement about the incident.

According to the investigative newspaper Vazhnye Istorii (Important Stories), photographs of the burning chimney have been made public through activists Amyr Aytashev and Aruna Arna. These photographs show the devastation caused by the chimney, with comparisons to previous photographs of the site indicating that the affected construction matches the known characteristics of the residence. Sirena’s research team compared those photographs with special software and proved their authenticity, noting that there were no symptoms of virtual manipulation. The Ministry of Emergency Situations has not published any comments or main points about the Chimney in Ongudai district.

The residence, officially registered as Gazprom property, has been the subject of intrigue since structural prices of around 3 billion rubles were revealed between 2009 and 2010. When journalists from Novaya Gazeta and “Avtorevyu” attempted to access the health center in 2011, their efforts were rebuffed by the workers’ security body who cited exclusive use of the site through the country’s most sensible officials.

Located at the picturesque confluence of the Ursul and Katun rivers, the Altai Residence is characterized by its milder winter temperatures and relative lack of snow, a stark contrast to Russia’s harsh winter climate. Over the years, President Putin has reportedly made several unofficial visits to the residence, reinforcing its symbol as a remote refuge for the Russian leader.

Unofficially, the complex is said to house a farm that mines deer antlers, a supposedly health-promoting substance that has been linked to President Putin’s interest in unconventional medical treatments. Previous Russian media reports that Putin even used baths made with staghorn extract.

In 2022, researchers from the publication Project claimed that then-Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu led Putin into a love of bloodbaths in Altai, according to sources close to Putin. He also claimed that Gazprom chief Alexei Miller also appreciated such procedures.

It is also believed that this apartment in Altai is home to one of Putin’s bunkers. Local citizens spotted Putin’s helicopter near the apartment during the COVID pandemic.
