A blow to Africa’s hopes for greater vaccine autonomy

BioNTech SE is reviewing its plans to build a production network of vaccine factories in three African countries, just over a year after opening the first facility in Rwanda. The German biotech company is not moving forward lately with a proposed production facility in South Africa. In Senegal, BioNTech is now discussing the development of a smaller-scale production site or, in all likelihood, an R center.
