A few months ago, I thought of the “30A” as a window seat assigned in the economy segment of the plane. But it’s also a set of charming little Florida coastal towns nestled between the much crowded spaces of Panama City and Destiny along the 30A County Highway.
Here locate the beach communities of Rosemary Beach, Seaside and Santa Rosa, to name a few. What you would probably not place in 30A are tourist traps, large hotels, massive condominiums or actually chains of all kinds. Instead, look for a much quieter technique. to beach life with more families than students, more local department stores with cult fanatics and all the prospects of shrimp, oats and the Emerald Coast that your abdomen and soul may desire.

Although you may never have heard of 30A so far, those who have been once come back year after year. You’ll find unwavering 30A visitors from Georgia, Tennessee and the southeast. And even though this Texan is still a 30A fan after my week. -Long visit, I have learned enough to actively plan my own return trip. He’s so good.
So whether you’ve heard about 30A for years or heard this strange word for the first time, here’s what you want to know to plan your first visit to this stunning component of Florida’s Emerald Coast.
The so-called 30A comes from a genuine road in South Walton County (County Road 30A) that stretches about 20 miles along Florida’s Panhandle coast, in the middle of the stretch between Destiny and Panama City.
The nearest airport is Panama City – Northwest Florida Beaches (ECP), 56 km from Seaside in Zone 30A. It is a small but modern airport, easy to get in and out without too many problems.
However, Destin Airport – Fort Walton Beach (VPS) is another very viable option, as is Pensacola International Airport (PNS) a little more. But whichever airport you choose, chances are you’ll need to rent a car so you can explore the domain to your liking.

From west to east along Highway 30A you’ll find Dune Allen Beach, Santa Rosa Beach, Blue Mountain Beach, Grayton Beach, Watercolour, Seaside, Seagrove Beach, WaterSound Beach, Seacrest Beach, Alys Beach, Rosemary Beach and Inlet Beach. Beach, which is technically right next to the U. S. 98, an honorary member of 30A. I’ve also noticed Sandestin and others in the lineup, so what’s 30A may depend a little on who you’re asking.
But in addition to an express list of city names, here’s what you need to know about 30A: all those communities have their own very strong personalities.
And it turns out it’s not uncommon to prefer each other. This is an informal, friendly and architecturally varied component of 30A. You’ll see four-story houses and smaller A-style beach houses on the same street.
There are public beaches in Santa Rosa with loose parking, motorcycle trails and many ready-to-use golf carts that can be rented.
There are many houses to rent in Santa Rosa on sites ranging from VRBO to Marriott Homes
Some smart places to eat in Santa Rosa include Goatfeathers (which also has a seafood market to take away), Local Catch and Cafe Tango. Cafe Tango even offers catering for small organizations and takeaways to the family circle, which may be convenient when you just don’t need to cook for your team but don’t need to dine in a restaurant.

Grayton Beach, one of the oldest communities in the area, has attracted travelers from inland Florida and Alabama cities for more than a hundred years. I hear Grayton Beach is described as the soul of 30A, a ‘crunchy’ city or even a “small, modern beach, the city full of free-spirited people. “
In Groton, locate the symptoms of hand-painted peace along the streets and a prominent VW van. You’ll also find Red Bar, an incredibly popular institution. Unfortunately, the original red bar burned down in 2019. However, it was reborn in the same position. reopened in the summer of 2020.
Although there are drinks and dazzling music here, don’t skip meals. Crab fritters (available on Fridays and Saturdays) are popular, and I can make sure of the Shrimp Po Boy we ordered to go (you know, it’s a pandemic and everything).
Here, locate Grayton Beach State Park as well as state park cabanas that are relatively basic, but also more affordable than many of the area’s housing features starting at just $110 per night.

Have you ever seen “The Truman Show”? If so, you noticed at least one component of Seaside. It is a picturesque city so well planned and photogenic that it would possibly seem false . . . which made her the best for this film.

Alys Beach is . . . Fascinating.
I can almost assure you that if you are not familiar with the area, you will never guess that Alys was located in the Florida Panhandle. Alys is a secret hidden in plain sight. In fact, either by design or by chance, even the pronunciation of the call will reveal whether you went or not, because Alys pronounces Alice.
Here the buildings are all white and Alys beach indicates that the domain has, “. . . its base in a Moorish and Mediterranean style, with architectural styles founded on the good appearance of Bermuda and with courtyards encouraged through the houses of Antigua, Guatemala. “
I would like to make a nod to Mykonos, Turkey, Portugal and almost everyone who is charming and exotic And even if you can, and deserve, walk and explore Alys Beach, it has an exclusive atmosphere for members. . You don’t get to this beach if you’re not a resident or guest and the domain was absolutely devoid of people.
If you’re hungry at Alys, George’s is open for lunch and dinner and gets the best grades. Even Charlie’s Donut Truck in Alys won positive reviews. (We haven’t been to Charlie yet, but while we’re on the subject, doughnuts in the domain came from Donut Hut near Seaside. )
The cottages for rent in Alys are incredibly beautiful, but they also start with around $1000 a night and pass from there. On the plus side, your Instagram feed (and even the next Architectural Digest factor) will thank you for the photos you take. while you’re at Alys.
Rosemary Beach is like a combination of Seaside and Aly, even listed as one of the most productive options in the United States in the TPG summary.
It’s beautiful, to say the least, but not as perfectly uniform as Aly. It has a slightly more visual life combined in forest Gump’s tree-covered cobblestone streets. But here I probably wouldn’t locate golf carts that are ubiquitous. in Santa Rosa, even if you see millions of bikes, drive slowly until you reach the city.
While there are lovely restaurants and department stores on the streets of Rosemary Beach, the existing beach turns out to be the place where you want a rental beach chair that borders the sandy shores.

Most 30A hotels consist of space and cabin rentals. Some rentals can be obtained through a national vacation home rental site, and some are managed through local businesses that have mini-monopolies in their area. cottage on Airbnb, you probably have to make an ebook directly.
At Seaside, those captivating cabins located on tree-lined streets around Tupelo would be hard to beat as long as you don’t want ocean prospects in the front row.
But no matter how you book, renting a home in the domain is actually a wonderful choice, especially COVID, when you have your own domain and your own kitchen.

We had a constant personal pool in our Santa Rosa rental space booked through Marriott, and it was the perfect device to load at the nearby public beach. This five-bedroom space can be seamlessly shared between two or 3 families, starting at approximately $400 per night in the low-season months, then increasing to about 3 times that amount according to the high season of the night. Rates for spring and summer holidays at 30A will be double or triple low season rates. (Here is the link to our express house rental. )
There are resorts in the area, such as the Aquarelle Inn, with popular rooms starting from $400 to $600 in the high summer season and $200 to $300 consistent with the coldest off-season night. Although classic hotel themes cannot be used at this resort, you can ebook through Chase using your Ultimate Rewards broadcasts worth up to 1. 5 cents each if you have Chase Sapphire Reserve®.
If you need to use your classic hotel points, you have no luck in the center of 30A because the chains are not welcome, however you can stay quite close.
There is a Hilton Sandestin that can be booked for 50,000 to 70,000 Hilton numbers depending on the night. Although technically at 30A, this asset is only 8 miles from Santa Rosa.
Also in Sandestin, locate a Residence Inn and Courtyard that can be booked with Marriott issues on The Marriott Reward Levels of Category Four and 5.
But, if you want to redeem a stash of Marriott points, there are definitely several great Marriott rental homes scattered across the domain if you need to go down that route. (Here’s the exact space we booked through Marriott).

Many more travelers have heard of Destiny and Panama City than zone 30A dotted between those two tourism giants. And I’m not here to go to Destiny or Panama City, as they also offer beautiful white sugar sand and captivating blue-green waters. However, I like my vacation a little quieter and quieter than those two well-known coastal towns can offer.
For us, 30A was a glorious surprise in Florida.
It was the easily accessible national beach getaway I didn’t know much about before I discovered it, and although I spent a vacation in Florida and have stayed in places like Gulf Shores, Pensacola and Destiny, I had never heard of 30A before this year.
Since it’s 2020, keep in mind that mask clothing was abnormal in the region, however, many restaurants were already designed for al fresco dining and others have developed physically powerful takeaway procedures so you can create your own bubble away. Golf carts are general modes of transportation in other communities (although some have banned golf carts), so there are many opportunities to laugh outdoors while on the go.
Access to the public beach varies from network to network, but simple and loose to Santa Rosa where we stayed. In fact, Santa Rosa can be a perfect access point to vacation life in 30A.
Having taken a beach holiday (thanks to problems and miles) in destinations ranging from French Polynesia to the Maldives, Hawaii and the Caribbean, I’m sure 30A beaches compare well to those big names. they are beautiful, special and value a scale at least once.
Of course, as regulars already know, once you stop immediately, you’ll probably come back.
