GYUMRI, JULY 6, ARMENPRESS. On the initiative and under the direction of 15-year-old Levon Alyanakyan, born and raised in the United States, loose boxes of e-books were installed in the Armenian city of Vedi, the city of Gyumri and the rural settlements of Shirak province.
Anyone can use the eebook box for free, choose an eebook, read it, and then go back to the same eebook box.
Levon says his purpose is the culture of the well-known loose small library also in Armenia, selling book exchange and reading.
“The idea came to me when I saw a small loose box of eeebook near our home in Laguna Hills, California. I picked up an eeebook and thought it was a smart idea that could be implemented in Armenia, especially in provinces where eeebooks are expensive and libraries are few. With this initiative, I need young Armenians to have the opportunity to read and educate themselves. Libraries are available to everyone,” he said, adding that they started the initiative in Vedi where 7 eeebook boxes were installed. , and then moved to Shirak Province, Gyumri and the rural communities of the province.
“Many other people have books at home that they have already read. They can take those books to the box and take another one instead to read. We hope it fulfills its purpose, the boxes will be complemented by new books that will have many readers. I think if a user likes this box, it will bring 10 or 20 pounds. I hope the boxes are full of books,” Levon said.
The 15-year-old Armenian-American makes a stopover in Armenia. ” In fact, I like travel and geography, I have made a stopover in forty-five countries. This is my 12th stopover in Armenia. I have been to villages and I liked them very much. I also like to read, especially old and geographical books. Of course, I also read fiction, Saroyan is my favorite author,” he said.
The boxes involve other books: fiction, professional, Armenian, Russian, English and French, depending on their location.
The next station of the Levon initiative is the province of Lori. A total of 30 boxes of e-books are expected in Ararat, Lori and Shirak provinces, and 23 are already in Array.
A fundraiser was held for the implementation of this initiative in Armenia and each e-book box has its circle of relatives or sponsors.
