8 New Places to Eat and Drink in and around New Haven

It’s a new month, a new season and in New Haven there are new places to grab a drink or eat.

Whether you’re looking to satisfy your year-round fried and industrial food cravings or to see something new from around the world, take a look at the new options in Elm City that opened this summer.

 

If you’re not familiar with Transylvanian cuisine, Alina and Chirs Caldarariu are dying to serve you at their new East Haven restaurant, Tansilvania Restaurant and Bar.

The couple left Romania nine years ago hoping to share their culture. That dream came true when they opened a takeaway edition of Transylvania in Fairfield. They now move to East Haven with a full-service dining experience.

Housed in one of Connecticut’s oldest buildings (built in 1706), the Caldararius said it captured the old-world vibes of Romania they were waiting for. and meatball soup, stuffed cabbage, goulash. Romanian sausage and doughs of red meat dishes and potatoes.

The couple hopes to upload Romanian entertainment and clothing in the future.

 

David Oricchio’s favorite cuisine is dinner. His wife, Julia Oricchio, has a fresher kitchen.

Poppy’s Coffee and Kitchen was born. East Rock’s new restaurant promises lunch deals soon. But stay diners and the world of TikTok, thrilled with breakfast features like blueberry pancakes, eggs benedict, avocado toast, and BECA (an edition of the bacon, eggs, and cheese staple with avocado added). There’s also a French omelette with fried shallots, three-egg omelettes, a bowl of acai and coconut and quinoa porridge and more.

Chacra is the only place to eat Peruvian and nightclub in New Haven. The place to eat also offers a lot of pisco, Peru’s national liquor. It is a grape brandy. Aguardiente, loosely translated as aguardiente, is a Spanish term for alcoholic beverages that involve between 20 and 60% alcohol by volume. In Peru, pisco is a drink with “denomination of origin,” meaning it can only be made with grapes from certain regions of Peru.

Festival season might be coming to an end, but Victoria Streeto and Eric Balcerzak don’t want you to wait until next summer to satisfy your carnival cravings.

Husband and wife groups opened Fest Faves in New Haven this summer at a store that needs you to feel like you’ve walked into a carnival and fair year-round. They serve fried pizza dough, funnel cake, sweet cotton, corn dog and pretzels and lots of fried sweet bars and Oreos.

Ryan Trevethan has been a special breakfast and lunch at The Plate in Milford for 8 years. Now, his pandemic-era food truck, a way to find diners where they were when restaurants closed, has its own physical location.

However, The Side Plate in West Haven is a little different. Trevethan noticed that other people were getting lighter when he was driving the truck. The Side Plate leans more toward salads, acai bowls and wraps. Now that his 3 children are older, Trevethan said he can spend more time at the restaurant, expanding beyond brunch hours to stay open until 8 p. m.

Located near Ella T. Grasso Boulevard and Route 1, Mi Gusto is owned by Sussette and Jose Fernandez and their daughter Gigi.

The Fernandezes are native to the Dominican Republic, but the food also reflects the cultures of Puerto Rico, Cuba, Trinidad and Mexico. The circle of family hopes to upload Jamaican dishes and American-style breakfasts in the future.

Crumbl Cookies is spread in Connecticut that a half-baked snickerdoodle.

The bakery, whose cookies go viral on TikTok, has opened five locations in less than a year, the latest in Milford. And in less than five years, the company has grown from a single site in Utah to 595 nationwide.

Crumbl’s menu rotates weekly and is presented to the company’s 5. 9 million TikTok followers. The use of cookies is encouraged through flavors, foods, and other trendy desserts like pies, cakes, and more.

You might not be throwing harpoons at giant sperm whales at Moby Dick’s in West Haven, but you can grab a glass of iced vodka paired with an oyster and cocktail sauce.

The owners of West Haven Cru Bar hope to revitalize an advertising district that was once active with what chef Jeff Lamberti calls “vintage exclusive. “The menu focuses on fresh local seafood with lots of oysters, clams and shrimp. The atmosphere of the dish is accompanied by a curated list of 15 signature cocktails and many local craft beers.
