Be careful with your location before you start digging, as this act is illegal on some beaches.
In Bethany Beach, Delaware, it is illegal to dig a giant hole in the sand. In Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, beachgoers can dig a hole more than two feet deep with a shovel. If you dig a hole, you’ll want to fill it in before you set off.

Bringing sand is perfectly appropriate on many American beaches, but some are not.
Refrain from collecting sand from beaches in Horry County, South Carolina. It’s smart practice to check this law on the domain you visit before collecting sand to take home.
This law has been in effect on Horry County beaches since 1956, according to the Myrtle Beach Sun News.
