6 gang members killed in an attack in Honduras

TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras (AP) — Inmates of one of Honduras’ tough street gangs killed six of their own in a crime in northwestern Honduras, the government said Monday.

Prison guards discovered the bodies of six Barrio 18 gang inmates crammed into a hallway during a regime inspection Monday morning at Ilama prison.

“We have six other people who have died in this prison,” National Police Deputy Commissioner Marlon Lagos told local media. “We are investigating and doing an inspection and we are also interviewing the coordinators of the other modules to know the reason. “

Lagos said he knew how the detainees were killed, but that medical examiners were coming to the scene.

At least 90 members of the Barrio 18 gang are being held for a variety of crimes ranging from drug trafficking to extortion and murder.
