About a third of U.S. adults who had Covid-19 have not yet regained their full physical condition two to 3 weeks after testing positive, according to a Study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention published Friday, which highlights the long-term nature of the disease. .
In surveying 292 other people in thirteen states, the CDC found that 35% of respondents who had symptoms at the time of verification were still experiencing persistent effects at the time of interviews.
“By contrast, more than 90% of outpatients with influenza approximately 2 weeks after a positive verification result,” the report says.
While other younger people are less likely to have severe cases of the disease, the study found that about one in five respondents between the ages of 18 and 34 were still recovering from the virus two to 3 weeks after a positive test.
Approximately 93% of respondents were not admitted to the hospital and still had symptoms, maximum cough (43%), fatigue (35%) and shortness of breath (29%), and even 34% of respondents said they had returned to a General Fitness State still reports at least one symptom from a list of 17.
The report occurs when cases have skyrocketed across the country over the summer, i.e. among other young people who are not possibly most at risk.
“Un targeted Covid-19 disease can lead to prolonged illness and persistent symptoms, even in young adults and others with little or no underlying chronic fitness problems,” the study says.
Speaking to NBC News in June, Amy Watson, a preschool instructor in Oregon, said she has been experiencing symptoms like a higher fever since her positive checkup in April. “You’re not crazy. These symptoms are real,” he told NBC. “If you find out that a fitness professional doesn’t pay attention to you, look for one.”
The World Health Organization on Friday reported the largest build-up in the number of instances in the world with 284196, partly due to the United States. The country leads all other instances shown, 4,084,551, as well as reported deaths with 144,954.
A debate is underway in the United States over whether face-to-face education should be provided in schools, and the Trump administration argues that young people are less likely to have severe Covid-19 cases. But as the CDC report illustrates, much is still unknown about the long-term effects of the virus. Another fear is that young people will continue to pass the virus on to their homes and to their own teachers, even if they have no symptoms.
