32 African countries report less than 5,000 COVID-19

Some 32 African countries have reported fewer than 5,000 cases of COVID-19 amid a primary peak in new cases in some African countries.

The African Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC Africa) revealed this in a statement released Monday in Addis Ababa.

The average noted that the number of cases shown of COVID-19 in Africa increased to 1,187,937, while the number of pandemic deaths increased to 27,779 on Monday.

It added that 8 African countries had reported cases of COVID-19 15 to 10,000.

According to CDC Africa, 11 African countries have reported cases of between 10,001 and 50,000 positive cases in COVID-19.

CDC Africa also noted that 3 African countries – Egypt, Nigeria and Morocco – have reported cases of COVID-19 ranging from 50,001 to 100,000.

South Africa is the African country that has reported that more than 100,000 have shown positive cases of COVID-19 so far, representing 609,773, according to the African CDC.

The country also has a number of deaths similar to COVID-19, in 13,059, he noted.

According to CDC Africa, the Southern African region is the highest affected in terms of cases shown, followed by the North and West African regions.

African CDC also reported an increasing number of COVID-19 recoveries across the continent, 906,691 patients had recovered on Monday.
