Rio de Janeiro: The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) said on Wednesday it needed to repeat an inconclusive World Cup qualifier with Argentina.
“After receiving the request of coach Tite and coordinator Juninho Paulista, CBF president Ednaldo Rodrigues will seek to suspend the match,” one said on the federation’s online page.
The opening match, in September last year, was disrupted when Brazilian fitness officials stormed the court after seven minutes in Sao Paulo, alleging violations of the covid-19 quarantine by visitors.
World football’s governing body, FIFA, in February that the adjustment deserves to be repeated in September.
Since February, both nations have managed to qualify for the Qatar World Cup.
The CBF reported that FIFA had already agreed with the Argentine Football Association (AFA) to cancel the match.
“The CBF will settle for the proposed agreement through FIFA and the AFA so that the national team does not play the match against the Argentines in September,” the CBF said.
“Given the position of the coaching staff, we will now ask FIFA to cancel the match,” Rodrigues said. “Our priority is to win a sixth World Cup in Qatar. “
