Diana Ayala has worked for nearly two decades serving others in District 8 in social service agencies and government, and is a strong advocate for issues such as housing, gun violence, and the elderly. Learn more

Diana was born in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico, and moved to New York City with her circle of relatives as a child. Growing up in social housing after spending some time in the shelter system, she has experienced many demanding situations that have allowed her to have an exclusive voice and attitude in government and politics, and nurture her love of public service.

When she was a teenage mother-to-be, the father of Diana’s child was shot and killed in a senseless shootout, after which she returned to the shelter. She then started a new relationship that turned out to be abusive. In the face of those challenges, she found the personal strength to start her life anew, enrolling in school and earning her associate’s degree in social studies from Bronx Community College.

She worked as a senior middle director in East Harlem for seven years and then joined President Melissa Mark-Viverito’s team as director of Voter Services, becoming deputy chief of staff.

In her current role, Diana has been instrumental in crafting laws that have law, from expanding tenants’ rights to cracking down on the sale of artificial marijuana (K2). Diana has worked hand-in-hand with her constituents to tackle issues ranging from housing, homelessness and intellectual fitness to schools, immigration and gun violence. She is a wife to the people, a strong voice, and a competitive advocate for what she believes in.

Diana lives in East Harlem with her life partner, Frankie. She has four children and three grandchildren and also lives with two rescue dogs and three cats.

Inez Barron was elected to the State Assembly in November 2008, following an outstanding career of public service with the New York Department of Education. Inez is the daughter of George and Margaret R. Smith, who raised her to “put God first. “His parents instilled in him the price of education and pride in his African culture. For nearly fifty years, Ms. Barron has been active in protesting civil and human injustices such as segregation, discrimination, apartheid, the exclusion of Africa from the New York City curriculum, police misconduct, and environmental racism. He fought for human rights in 1960 when he joined protest demonstrations in Brooklyn organized in solidarity with those boycotting Southern companies involved in discrimination.

Inez has a long history of social media activism. Through his involvement with various organizations in the network, he has contributed to the closure of a store that promoted illegal drugs, the cessation of the structure of a wood-burning incinerator that would have released tons of waste into the air, and the cessation of the use of charcoal ovens in public places, schools, and tenants in Starrett City and Meadowbrook in his quest to maintain affordable housing.

Inez was born in Brooklyn’s Fort Greene projects and attended New York City public schools. She is a graduate of Hunter College, City University of New York (Bachelor of Science in Physiology) and Bank Street College of Education (Master of Science in Reading and Special Education). ). For a brief time, Dr. Barron cleverly leveraged her clinical experience and worked in the radioisotope lab of a giant hospital.

Ms. Barron began her career at the New York City Board of Education in 1967. It upholds the philosophy that young people deserve to be valued and motivated to succeed, and that teachers have a duty not only to provide the skills needed to be productive and lifelong learners. and critics of society, but also to challenge and stimulate the thinking of young people.

For 18 years, Inez has held a variety of pedagogical positions, adding instructor (elementary, high school, and school levels), reading instructor, and math lab instructor. Since 1976, Inez has been an active member of House of the Lord Church in Brooklyn, where Rev. Dr. Herbert Daughtry is a pastor and has embraced a holistic ministry that encompasses the spiritual, political, social, and fitness dimensions of life. He is a member of the Board of Directors, a member of the Gospel Choir, and has served as Chairman of the Education Department of House of the Lord Church, which ran House of the Lord Elementary School.

Inez’s commitment to serving communities in Eastern New York, Brownsville, and Canarsie continues as she takes office as a Congressman and represents the constituents of the 40th District with a focus on education, physical care, economic development, housing, and environmental justice. Ms. Piquant is a third-year honors student at the New York City College of Technology, where she is majoring in law and paralegal studies. As an aspiring attorney, Ms. Piquant is a member of the Haitian American Bar Association of New York (HALANY), which aims to work with diverse Americans in the legal career to create opportunities for future law students. As a Brooklyn native, born Juvanie, raised through Haitian immigrants in Canarsie, she has noticed firsthand the importance and affordability of education for New York City’s most marginalized and hopes to empower young people and their peers at CUNY.

Reshma Saujani is the founder and executive director of Girls Who Code, the foreign non-profit organization that seeks to close the gender gap in the generation and replace the symbol of what a PC programmer looks and does. A graduate of Yale and Vanderbilt universities, Dr. Valdés studies interests in the cultural production of black peoples throughout the Americas: the United States and Latin America, including Brazil and the Caribbean.

Stefani is a tireless advocate for civil rights and justice and advocates for access to education, food justice, housing stability, and maternal health. As a member of Silver Life and a member of the Brooklyn NAACP, she continually promotes voter rights and is an identified leader. in education, voter participation and registration. Prior to her election to the New York State Assembly, Stefani worked in state and local government, starting as a staff leader for council district 36 for five years before serving as director of special projects for the state senator. Her entire career has focused on equity and access as a program manager for several human rights organizations, including the Research Foundation/CUNY, the Algebra Project, the Education Development Center, the Community Service Society, and the American Red Cross.
